Prevention
You can stop Chicken Pox by getting a shot called the Varicella vaccination. Kids usually get it when they're between 12 and 15 months old. There's also a booster shot that they should get for extra protection when they're 4 to 6 years old.
How Good is the Chickenpox Vaccine at Stopping the Disease?
The chickenpox vaccine works really well at stopping the disease. When someone gets both of the suggested doses, it does a great job at protecting them from chickenpox. Research shows that it stops about 90% of the more serious cases of chickenpox. Also, it's almost 100% effective at preventing the very severe cases. And even if someone who's had the vaccine gets chickenpox, their symptoms will usually be less severe than someone who didn't have the vaccine. So, the chickenpox vaccine is a safe and successful way to stop this easy-to-catch disease.
